The fanny pack. The hip pack. The bum bag.
LV makes one. Marc Jacobs makes one. Prada make one. Gucci makes one.
Butt why?
{pun highly intended.}

The even more confusing part to this asinine accessory
is when beautiful style icons
sporadically click one around their svelte selves
and send the masses into utter chaos.
When I see pictures like these,
my internal monologue starts reading error codes:
Is a fanny pack the new headband? Does the upper east side condone hip packs?
When did these get called from the fashion bench
from the other losers like the visor, overalls, & double stacked socks? Help!
You tell me:
what do you think of fanny packs?
what do you think of fanny packs?
Do you rock them-
or knock them?
**Wish us a safe flight this morning as TK & I head back to Oxford from Italy.
Oh dear- this is the most disturbing trend!
ReplyDeletesort of reminds me of a waiter, with one of those change belts...
ReplyDeleteI do love the "hands free" practicality of it, but I think a "clutch" is as far as I will go - I need no extra bulk around my fanny! Thank-you very much.
pve
Love the clutch in the top right photo, but I would just carry it like a clutch should be carried. Yes, hands-free can be a great thing, especially for those of us toting around little ones. But, there are certainly more stylish options. :)
ReplyDeleteerrr.. Lauren, I rocked one in 4th grade. It was hot pink :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that someone else is aware of this alarming trend. Imagine my horror upon seeing a fanny pack recommended in InStyle; I nearly cancelled my subscription.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was Zsa Zsa Gabore who said, "If you wore a trend the first time around, you shouldn't wear it the next time." I suppose that leaves me off the hook!
eek.. no way!
ReplyDeletehahaha a funny way to put it Lauren!
ReplyDeleteBe safe darling, welcome to England xoxo
I don't think I would ever wear one, but if the trend really did explode then I would be lucky - I have some from my parents lying around somewhere. But I would like to keep them in their "stored away" spot...I'm not feelin' this trend. at. all.
ReplyDeletei would totally rock it if i had a cutesy one like the top right black...so fun :)
ReplyDeletei don't know...i'm kind of with stephanie! the celebs look pretty cute with theirs on...
ReplyDeleteEh not a fan though I think some fashionable people can pull it off lol
ReplyDeleteoh man - i dont know if im liking this trend at all....even if its a trend im not feeling the loving. kinda like the animal print trend - nope, i just cant do it. but kudos to anyone that can! ;)
ReplyDeleteI had one of those lime green hot pink monstrototies when I was like 7. But not now. Especially because for the hundreds and hundreds of dollars those cost I could get an entire bag. Have a safe flight!
ReplyDeleteRamblings of a Small Town Girl
OMG... knock them! I hadn't even noticed that this trend was making a comeback, now that you have pointed it out, I have serious concern for the direction fashion is taking!
ReplyDeletethey remind me of the little pouch my hairstylist wears while she's giving me a trim...to hold her clips and shears. and while she is amazing, i don't want to carry this look to the streets. big. fat. knock.
ReplyDeleteThe only fanny pack I'd ever condone would be one that holds my dogs' poop bags and treats for when we go on those long walks!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm a knock 'em girl. Just can't seem to get my head (or butt) around the idea! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
It's never okay. That's my opinion. Somethings needed to stay in the 80s.
ReplyDeleteI love fanny packs, but not when they pretend to be high fashion. They're practical and sporty, but they should stay in that sense. I sometimes rock one from Mountain Equipment Co-op, but it's for hiking or running around town. I fell in love with it when I worked with one all summer at camp. However, I do know it's a horrible look. I just don't mind feeling silly for practicality's sake.
ReplyDeleteI actually posted about this earlier in the summer here:

Hmm, a trend that started in the 80s should have stayed there. No need to "pack" on any extra pounds, even if you are thin! Just because a designer makes it doesn't mean its good design! Thanks for the warning! *Amy
ReplyDeleteHahaha you're so right! It really makes you think twice when such fabulous houses put out such things.
ReplyDeleteOk, truth be told. I love a good fanny pack. I have to wear one every day on set full of double-stick tape, tide pens, safety pins, and scissors so I was sort of forced to love the fanny pack. I think I may have to invest in one of these sassy ones, I do wear it every day (I'm rehearsing the speech I'll tell to my husband)
ReplyDeleteI can understand the function, but no thanks! That's why cross body bags are great too!
