This week has brought horrific flooding to the Italian coast.
Towns throughout Liguria have been washed away,
homes have been destroyed,
six people have been killed,
and nine people are still missing.
Along Italy's brilliant coast
sits a rare jewel of splendor-
Italy's beloved Cinque Terre.
The five coastal cities have been
a really special place to me for a long time.
I visited there in college and attempted to ignore the cold
by laying out in the sunshine in a bikini during the beginning of March.

After finishing a buying trip in Milan,
Tyler met me here to tell me about his GMAT score
and the possibilities of where he might could study.

And it was the setting for a really sweet time with dear friends this summer.

The Cinque Terre is just an ordinary & amazing place.
I was devastated to read this quote by Angelo Betta, the mayor of Monterosso...
{the first of the five towns creating the Cinque Terre}...
"People are getting into their houses from the terraces, everything is flooded.
Monterosso doesn't exist anymore."
This clip of the flooding rushing through the streets is unbelievable.

Apparently, the favorite city Vernazza is the same...
(A favorite of mine & most other tourists.)
It's going to take a long time & a lot of rebuilding
to bring this amazing place back to it's full capacity...
to reopening the doors of local businesses...
to being a place where children can play...
and to reforming the community that it once was.

Please keep these cities in your thoughts & prayers
as they work through the damage, loss, & pains of starting over.
That is crazy and sad. In my thoughts and prayers.

How terribly sad and devastating...we drove from the Cote d'Azure in July trying to reach the Cinqueterra but it proved too long a drive for a day trip so we turned back - now I am SO sorry we missed it. Will have to go back once they have restored it. Love your video - you guys are such fun...lucky to have such wonderful memories of the places there in better times...
ReplyDeleteWOW - I can't even believe that! I haven't seen anything on CNN or FoxNews? My dad lives in southern Italy and we LOVE cinque terre! So sad.
ReplyDeleteMy fiance and I went to Cinque Terre last summer, it was such an incredible place. I am so so upset to hear what they have gone through. The video is so upsetting.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad! I've heard such wonderful things about it- hoping that they find the missing safe and that they are able to rebuild.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the video you made- the music is perfect! many prayers for everyone effected by the flooding- so tragic.

After years of dreaming about this place I finally visited it in August this year and it was just as magical as I'd hoped. Devastating for the people there.
ReplyDeleteNO! This is so sad. I cannot believe it's just destroyed. You had so many happy memories there. Sorry, I'm rambling. But that video is insane. All my prayers to them.
ReplyDeletethat makes me so sad. i hope the recovery will be fully successful and everyone stays safe. on the other hand, that video is awesome! totally have an internet girl crush on you. ha.
ReplyDeleteI seriously couldn't stop smiling as I was watching this video. So good!! And, um... hello gorgeous! You are so beautiful it hurts :)
ReplyDeleteOMG! How terribly sad! What a beautiful place, the contrast between your video and that of the flooding really showed the damages.
ReplyDeleteI really LOVE the first video, am so so SAD about the second! I never made it to Italy while I was living in London, wish I would have :( So good that you have such fond memories of your time there. They will rebuild, it's certainly not the first time beautiful old cities have had to pick themselves up and start from scratch :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post, although it makes me sad! Your video it adorable though...i am saying it again for the millionth time but I need to go back!

I still can't believe it - so sad.
ReplyDeleteThis is heartbreaking. Cinque Terre is definitely on my bucket list. However, this makes me want to go more to do whatever I can to support their local economies!
ReplyDeleteI had not seen this anywhere else, and the Cinque Terre is just one of my favorite places. Riomaggiore and the other small towns are just such incredible jewels. This breaks my heart. Thanks for letting all of us know.
ReplyDeleteCinque Terre is one of my greatest memories from studying abroad in Italy- I'm emailing my roommates from Italy as we speak..
ReplyDeletethank you for your kind post!
