Here's a confession:
I've always felt really uncomfortable
looking at people's maternity pictures.
Something about the belly showing
with ribbons wrapping around inverted belly-buttons
and fluffy layers of tuille draped over lady parts
always left me feeling... a little weird.
So when people asked who/what/when
I was going to do for ours maternity pics,
I kinda shrugged it off
as "not really my thing."
However, after going through
this amazing miracle of growing a human (or two)
inside of my body,
I kinda softened up on the concept
and realized that, yes, it is a special time
and I will want to remember in the years to come.
Plus, the idea that the talented Liz Denfeld could distract
the awkwardness typically associated
with maternity pictures
with the gorgeous surroundings
of Notting Hill really helped.
{Warning: There are quite a few here, apologies.}
When I look at these pictures,
I can't help but smile.
I was released from the hospital
the evening before
after a pre-eclampsia scare
that left me with puffy eyes and swollen legs...
and as much as part of me cringes
looking at myself looking so... well, pregnant,
the other part of me is actually pretty proud
of all that my body is doing.
Having a face that looks like I've been crying
and two chubby legs
in exchange for being 8.5 months pregnant
with two healthy girls
growing well inside me?
It's an easy swap.
It's amazing that God made our bodies to pull this feat off...
and I'm thankful for Liz
for snapping up this special time in our life.

You look so stunning! And thank you for not doing anything creepy/awkward in your pics. These are timeless and not embarassing, etc. The setting and the colors are lovely and, hell, you are almost done yet you still have a chin! Go YOU for doing so well!
ReplyDeleteXO
Ha! In these pictures, I have a few chins. ;) But yes, I'm holding my head up high and am glad we got them done. xx
DeleteThese are ADORABLE! They're like engagement-photo-style maternity photos. Obviously I love your classic kissing picture, but the cropped one of your belly and the one with you laughing at Tyler in the flower stall are also front runners for my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! So glad you changed your mind :) you look great! Best wishes in the last few weeks!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! I'm jealous of how great you look- and I'm only carrying one! Hope you're feeling well!
ReplyDeleteAgreed that you look gorgeous and fabulous! Seriously I'd never know you were having twins. And your eyes look smiley and happy! Congrats!
ReplyDeletehaha... bless you! I'm going to take "smiley & happy" and run with it. :)
DeleteI love the one of just you about half way down against the white pillars with your head cut off. (Does that sound weird?!) Anyway, it's gorgeous! They all are! You guys just look so happy :)
ReplyDeleteDo people believe you when you tell them you're carrying twins? You look really small!
It's my favorite, too!
DeleteWell, in England people just ignore the fact that you are pregnant, so who knows! No belly rubbing by strangers or anything for me... which I kinda like and kinda feel like I miss out on?
You are so gorgeous Lauren! I'm so glad that you changed your mind and got maternity photos taken...I'm sure you'll want to remember this time when it's passed :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos of a gorgeous family!
ReplyDeleteThese are so very beautiful! You are a lovely expectant couple and Liz did an amazing job. Thank you for sharing them on your blog!
ReplyDeleteThese are so so gorgeous Lauren- you look seriously radiant!!! And I swear we're living parallel lives...I just emailed a photographer asking if she had time to do some pictures for me and I, like you, have never wanted them before. And, I was at the hospital today with a pre-eclampsia scare of my own...very glad to hear you're OK:) xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as ever!
ReplyDeleteWow you look great! I love all of these!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! I love them all. Seriously I can't believe you have two babies in there. I'm going to be twice that size at 8.5 months, I can already tell and I have only one baby cookin'.
ReplyDeleteBut I have been struggling with the whole changing body thing and I'm trying to get myself thinking about it differently, just like you mentioned. It's amazing what our bodies can do. (Although I'm still confused as to why my face has to be puffy and my butt has to get bigger, but whatever.)
You look gorgeous! Liz did such an amazing job with the pictures, so tasteful. Can't wait to hear the news of your two little babes!
ReplyDeleteThis are so well done! I can totally relate to feeling uncomfortable looking at some maternity photos haha, but these are great. Tasteful, classy, and you and your husband are so sweet together! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteLauren - these are so precious! You guys look SO genuinely thrilled! I'm reading this in class and am basically squealing inside my head... those background colors and your precious bump & the very obvious adoration between the two of you. I cannot wait to see you welcome your bebes into the world (and hopefully we get to hear their names when they do!) ... Congrats again!
ReplyDeleteAw! These are gorgeous!! I agree that some maternity shots aren't exactly my cup of tea (or something I would want to share / look at for years to come.... ) but these are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think Liz captured your excitement perfectly and you both look so in love My favorite is the fourth photo with your head tipped slightly back, laughing - the perfect candid shot!
I wish you both the best of luck with the babies - with twins, there will definitely never be a dull moment!

P.S. This is my first blog comment!
I've always felt uncomfortable by pregnancy photos too but these are gorgeous! You two couldnt look cuter and that dress is perfect. You have a banging bod at 8.5 months pregnant! I hope eventually I look that good in a side shot!! the pics are too cute.
ReplyDeletehttp://itsthelittlethingsblog.blogspot.com
these are such beautiful, classy maternity pictures!
ReplyDelete4th picture down is my FAVE!!!! You two {four} are SO SO cute ;)
ReplyDelete-Emily
Lauren, you have by far the best maternity pictures (for starters, they're in noting hill so you clearly already had a leg up on all of the other mommas to be out there.) and please don't mention eclampsia this close to the American airing of Sybil's death from it. I'm still trying to recover. Can't wait to see photos of your two girls!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful, and the girls will love looking at them someday! You look awesome in that black dress! I love them all!
ReplyDeleteThese are insanely gorgeous, Lauren! Ditto Jess Boyd - best maternity photos I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pics! And I adore your dress!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said above regarding maternity shots and that is probably why I did not get any done. I totally didn't get why I would want a record of being pregnant, which I now regret. You TOTALLY did the right thing and these are such wonderful pictures. So many nice comments above and all of them true. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWell Lauren, you sure do make being 8.5 months pregnant with twins look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful. And I agree...you're going to want to remember this time of anticipation. So special.
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely going to be glad you had these photos taken! Liz did such a great job - you & Tyler look fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteThe ones of you two in the streets are so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! And truly classy. P.S. I love your dress and coat!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful and so happy! I've really enjoyed following your journey and can't wait to see those two beautiful babies!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great! Notting Hill was a great choice! My favorite is the one with you in front of the globe with your hand on you belly and the other on the globe. Also the Artisan Road one. Who am I kidding though, they are all gorgeous! :) Congratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing!!! You look fabulous and you should be so proud. I love the turquoise wall photos and the one with the globe. These are totally classy and don't make me cringe at all .You will cherish these forever. Liz is the best!
ReplyDeleteyou look gorgeous!! and, notting hill is such an amazing backdrop. these really don't even look like "maternity" pictures. it looks like y'all are just out having a fun day and you happen to be pregnant, hehe. amazing pics!
ReplyDeleteSeriously you could not get any more adorable. Plus the fact that you are able to put tights on, that's a feat even when not pregnant!
ReplyDeleteMy Mother's intuition tells me that these girls want to come out and be in the photo shoot. I think they are arriving very soooon! You BOTH are glowing!
ReplyDeletepve
Beautiful pics! You look fabulous, and Notting Hill is the ideal setting. I'm very glad to hear that you and the babies are okay... sorry you had such a scare.
ReplyDeleteOh Lauren. These are simply breathtaking. You are stunning mommy. I am so glad you shared them with us all out here in the blog world. I'll be praying for a very healthy and easy delivery. ReplyDeleteThey are GORGEOUS! You nailed it and look so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSimply exquisite, Lauren. I've just recently found your charming blog and I'm enjoying reading all of your older posts. I've even got my daughter hooked on your wonderful blog. Congratulations and best wishes to you and hubby as you start a whole new exciting chapter in your lives.
ReplyDeleteYou two look so gorgeous!!! These pictures are all great; so classy!
ReplyDeleteI have also never been a fan of these half naked pictures of ribbons and bows around the bellies-- I have always felt a bit embarrassed when looking at it... (personally).
But those pictures are a hit! And you still look so slim (except the belly of course, haha). Wonderful idea to shoot the pics in your beautiful neighborhood of Notting Hill!
Not long to go, it seems - wishing you all the best,
Svenjaxx

DeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I love them. I was trying to pick my favourite, and I still can't decide! Those are going to be a great keepsake!
ReplyDeleteyou look so so good Lauren! i love these maternity photos so much.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these pictures! I agree with you, no belly shots, no bows! And so glad you live now and not during the time of Lady Sybil! You've made it so long with twins! Can't wait to see pictures of the cutest family of four!! Congratulations!

The ones on the street are my fav :) I have mine pictures set for early March, and I'm glad I talked myself into doing it because documenting this part of my life (like you said) no matter what your body looks like/is going through is beautiful, and I want to remember it. Now, I'm going to pin these :)

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You're such a stunning mama! Maternity sessions are one of my fave types of sessions to shoot (no weird ribbons or bows around the belly here) because it's such a special, joyful time in a couple's life. Your photog did a great job capturing that for you two!
ReplyDeletexo,

ReplyDeleteYou look great! This is my perfect idea of maternity photos. I could not agree more with your previous sentiments. Yours were a perfect blend of "yes we are expecting" with classy.
ReplyDeleteLauren,
ReplyDeleteYou are beaming and beautiful!!! I am so happy that you had Liz take those photos and that you shared them with us. I guarantee you they will only become more special as the years go by.
I hope that you are feeling better...and enjoying this quiet time before the girls arrive.
Big hugs!!!

Lauren ~ You are truly glowing and could not be any more precious! I love these pictures so much, and you really are making pregnancy look easy, fun, and dare I say glamorous (trips to Italy and Paris!). Those little girls are in for an adventure and I can't wait to see pictures and meet them on my next trip over. They will be here SO SOON! Thinking of you during these last weeks. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you are already 8.5 months pregnant! You are carrying so well and are so beautiful in these pictures.
ReplyDeleteHey! Great pics! I agree, a lot of maternity photos are creepy and far too personal to share with the public.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you're a regular reader of "A Cup of Jo" but yesterday's "Motherhood Mondays" post has some great comments about being the mother of twins and comments from twins about what their experience was like growing up. Just thought you might like to know! Congratulations by the by!
You look absolutely AMAZING!!! I'm so glad you did a maternity shoot. You can be very proud - your body is a temple.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are ok with your blood pressure - I had pre-eclampsia for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy and it wasn't fun :(
x
Lauren, as I've stated before in previous comments, you really are glowing and look fabulous!! To look this good with twins at 8.5 months-WOW! I just love all of these photos while you're out and about in Notting Hill. They're so refreshing because they're natural which I love vs. many of the typical over-posed pics.
