Five Things On My Mind (Dallas Edition)

Here are five things sitting on my mind
now that I'm residing in the Lone Star State
for the glorious month of August.

Baby in "heat" in England: laughing. Baby in "heat" in Texas: passed out.

I almost forgot what hot was.

When you've just gone through a "heat wave" in England
where temperatures are sitting in the high 80's for weeks on end,
you aren't suffering.

You're spoiled.

Thank goodness for the invention of the pool
& drinks that are available in quantities over 50 ounces...
and for under $1.

I really shouldn't have eaten so much dessert
after every single meal
every single day
this spring & summer.

Now that I'm in a swimsuit or short dresses,
I slightly regret it.

(But let's be honest, I'll be hidden from the glare of chubby white skin in a matter of weeks. YOLO.)

 I love king sized beds.

I mean, I can wax poetic
on how snuggly we are
in our cozy double...

But there is something
that can only be described as wonderful
when you can spread out like a starfish
in your bed...
and still have your man in there with you.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

England, you need it.
Trust me.

I've been starting out every day with a big ole bowl of the stuff...
and I'm the better for it.

The Queen would be, too,
I can just feel it.

If not for me,
do it for the happiness of Prince George's childhood.

I'm in the last few days of 28.

My birthday is Sunday.

28 was too much of a bit of a roller coaster for me.

I'd like to recover from the emotional whiplash
I experienced during the last year
with a period of just regular days & goodness.

So upcoming year,
please be kind, boring
& slightly heavy on the trips to Italy.

As much as it stinks to get older....
I feel like 29
is going to be awesome.

Let's do this.

What's one thing on your mind today?

  1. England seriously doesn't have cinnamon toast crunch? We have it in Germany, but it's called Cini Minis.

    Happy almost bday!

  2. Happy [early] birthday! 29 was a good year for me, I spent it in London too :)

  3. Your comment about the heat wave in London made me laugh. I remember when I lived over there, sitting on the bus after work one day, listening in to the conversation behind me - two girls talking animatedly about the "heat wave". My interest was piqued thinking they were talking about Greece or the South of France.... but no, I worked out they were talking about the 82 degree day we were experiencing (I think the heat wave lasted 3 days). As an Australian, used to temperatures in excess of 100 for weeks on end in Summer, I thought it very funny. Have a very happy birthday, and wishing you a wonderful year ahead.

  4. It sounds like you're enjoying your time in Texas though! Smuggle some of that cereal out with you!

  5. Seriously, is there anything better than a giant bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch? No, no there is not. Lady V looks like she is loving the Lone Star state, enjoy the rest of your visit! Xoxo

  6. The cereals in England definitely need an AK touch, as well as everything else there.

I can't get over how much your daughter is a perfect blend of you two. I just want to eat her cheeks! (Please don't be alarmed haha!)

  7. When I studied abroad in London earlier this year I got Cinnamon Toast Crunch all the time at Sainsbury's, but it was called Crazy Squares. I don't know how I could have gotten by without it :)

  8. How big my boobs are.

Today the boy I care for started pushing them.
To which I replied, "Play with your own boobs!"
To which he replied, "But mine are so small!"

...Even the kids are noticing now.
    BUH.

  9. Preaching to the choir here I know, but it's 9:47 PM in Memphis right now and 91 degrees (and probably 90% humidity). THAT is what you call heat. oop, just looked on my phone and it's a balmy 97 in Dallas as we speak. Even better.

Seriously though, happy birthday, and best wishes on the coming year :) (I'm new to this liking-August thing, but look forward to celebrating another August birthday on Saturday.)

  10. Let's see. One thing on my mind today is that I can't believe my oldest is starting Kindergarten in a couple weeks...and I'm just really, really, really heartbroken over it. I know this is part of it...letting them grow. I just didn't know letting go would hurt so much. But her...she's super excited...and that's what matters the most!

  12. Happy early birthday! I'm celebrating my (belated) birthday today and was just thinking that although I was looking forward to 30 last year (strange, I know) it ended up being not the best year. So now I'm hoping 31 is an improvement for me and 29 is better for you. Here's to odd years!

  13. I just turned 29 on the 6th...I'm sure hoping 29 is a good, kind finale to my 20s and to yours! Happy Birthday!

  14. Yay for August birthdays (mine is today)! I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of family, love, happiness and celebrating!
Funny - my Dad back in Italy for the summer and he's been saying how hot it's been - slightly unusual for them in the mountains - he lives in northern Italy. While here in MO, we've had somewhat of a fair (and sometimes cool!) summer. Funny how that works ;)

  19. Happy early birthday - our bdays are just 8 days apart.

I have been thinking today about how tired I am from work, but how grateful I am to be employed and to have a weekend off to catch up, rest, and think.

    XO

  21. Omg, hwo cute your baby girl is! She is adorable!! Happy happy birthday! Over here the heatwave seems over - I slept in proper PJ's again (you know with long trousers and stuff) and a blanket.

    xx

  22. She is just too cute. I would be kissing her cheeks constantly too :) And I agree about the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There might just be world peace if sugary American cereal was available around the world...

  23. OMG Lauren - you're such a toddler! You make us tired ladies feel really old. We do wish a 29th year filled with joy and blessings. Maybe importing Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a new business venture...

  25. You can definitely get Cinnamon Toast Crunch in London, it's called Curiously Cinnamon and can be found at Tesco. I also recently found Froot Loops (slightly different in color in the UK) and Golden Grahams. It's like you never left America these days!
