When we were living in Paris
in the spring of 2012,
it was one of the coldest winters
in Europe in a hundred years...
The freezing temps meant we were ducking into cafes
as often as we possibly could
in hopes of warming up.
The thing is,
if I drank coffee
every time I needed to warm up,
I'd be spazzing out
from the constant caffeine buzz.
You would see me jittering
down the Champs Elysees
a hundred miles an hour.
Eventually, I opted
for fresh mint tea-
or "the a la menthe."
And thank goodness I did.
I stumbled upon a guilt-free treat
that I can enjoy
without any sugar intake
or unwanted caffeine.
And, man, it is so flipping good.
When the weather turns chilly,
I turn on the kettle
and pluck a few leaves
to make my own brew.
(You can drizzle a bit of honey or a spoon of sugar in, if you prefer it a bit sweeter.)
It's such a simple & elegant way
to warm up…
Enjoy!

Dang mistral wind ;)
ReplyDeleteWe brought home a ton of mint tea from Morocco on our trip there a year ago and it was so good!
ReplyDeleteI love mint tea!! I'm the same way about coffee but love a warm drink during the day so tea is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI have always really enjoyed peppermint tea -- in fact, it's the only kind of tea I drink! Do you grow your own leaves and brew your own tea that way? I would be interested to hear more about how you do that. I have always just purchased mint tea bags from the grocery store, but your way sounds much cooler and fancier.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a perfect alternative to coffee and just in time for the cold spell that has hit Vancouver Brrrr
ReplyDeleteI love tea and I am going to have to try this. It sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty much like perfection! :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love mint tea! It is the best!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great! I'm going to have to try that as well! Is that cup in the picture with gold leafing yours?? They are BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeletelove this ... it may be summer here but I still find myself making a nighly cuppa before bed (no caffine please) and my mint plant is going crazy on our patio! perfect solution!!
ReplyDeletei used to drink so much coffee but about a year ago i switched to tea and i'm so glad i did! I haven't figured out how to brew my own, but i want to!
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! Throughout the year I drink coffee, but as the weather cools and I need more warm drinks I up my intake of teas, and this is a great idea.

I remember that winter well. We spent a very cold week there in the Feb and could almost not make the dash across the road to the nearest cafe. Brrr. Mint tea is a great alternative to the calorie laden hot choc I opted for...next time!

I totally laughed out loud at this. I just jittered to and from the post office, and then made a cup of Kusmi Detox Tea (minty and lemony) to warm up, instead of a third coffee. Timely post!
Yes yes yes yes! My friend from Morocco made it for me one VERY cold and snowy day on the East Coast and my life has never been the same.
ReplyDeleteHad this in Swiss too. Love the fresh mint they'd put in it. Yum! Thanks for reminding me (:
