Pack Your Bags: Alpine Skiing

image
By the time my friends in the States are going to bed,
we will be getting up at the crack of dawn here in France.

The grogginess and regret will end
as soon as our train pulls out of the station towards the Swiss border
... and I can fall back to sleep.

We are going skiing in Interlaken this weekend...
which is a first for me on a few levels.

First time skiing in Switzerland...
First time skiing in Europe...
First time skiing without real ski clothes!

Oh well, it's supposed to be in the mid 60's at the base of the mountain...
so it doesn't sound like it will be too chilly up on the mountain.

{Spring skiing is so much better than winter skiing. Fact.}

Have you been skiing in Interlaken before?
Any tips? Any cozy chalets not to miss?
Help me maximize my three nights in Switzerland, s'il vous plait!

I'll be posting absurd pictures of Alpine Splendor to facebook while I'm away...
come join the party.

{Are all facebook pages that fun? Because I kinda like all the people who post on mine.}

  2. How fun! I lived in Germany for four years, so skiing happened at least once or twice during the year. My family would always go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, but sometimes we ventured to Switzerland and Austria for skiing. I have only been to Interlaken once and we took a train up the mountain. I'm living in Thailand now, so I'm pretty jealous of your snow adventure. I hope you have a great time though!

  4. Lauren, have so a wonderful time!! I can't give you any advice (the one time I went skiing, I had a collision with a friend which caused the entire ski lift to stop. I could only turn left, and she, right...hence the collision. It didn't help that this was on the bunny slope either) but I hope you have sunny skies and clear slopes! Can't wait to hear about how the trip goes. I hope you are enjoying your week and Happy Wednesday!! Be sure to stop by my blog to check out the redesign!

  7. I never went skiing in Interlaken but did take a day trip by train to a gorgeous little village called Grindelwald. It was a picture perfect alpine village. Have a great time!

  9. Hola from Honduras! Check out Gimmelwald - it's Grindelwald's hip older sister with a much more authentic vibe. Has some incredible views and nice hiking trails that aren't too intense. Serene, beautiful, and picturesque...I seriously thought Heidi was gonna pop out from behind a corner at any moment!

  10. I went to Interlaken and Gindelwald a few years back but the weather was pretty nasty. One thing we did manage to do was go night sledding - and at the end we had fondue. That's about the extent of my recommendations :)
