It's Greek to me...

So I've been told I'm a cheeseball.

I am likened to Galinda from Wicked.

I am compared to giddy Alice Cullen.

I openly admit that I lean towards
obnoxiously cheesy and happy (albeit dorky) things.

{e.g: musical soundtracks, over-use of glitter, coloring with scented markers,
and religiously dressing up in pink & red on Valentine's Day}

Yet, I scornfully think that
Mamma Mia
is the most ridiculous movie
I've ever seen.

The thing is:
I know some very respectable, talented, & fashionable people
that LOVE this movie...

And I don't get it.

Dorky me, of all people,
 should love this movie.

Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Greek Isles for a backdrop,
and ABBA lyrics as the majority of the script.

All the important elements for a good movie are there.

But, alas,
I can only turn my nose up to it.

Maybe it's the stylist's unabashed use of overalls.

It could be Pierce Brosnan's awkwardly terrible singing.

Perhaps it's that it's Meryl Streep singing ABBA
in place of Agnetha or Frida.

I really can't put my finger on it-
but I want to hear your opinion.

Love it
 leave it?

  1. Call me crazy, but I've never seen it! But, from what I hear from family and friends, leave it!

  2. i did NOT like it at all either! glad to be in your company:)

  3. LOVE the musical, LEAVE the movie...seriously, when I saw the musical on Broadway, it changed my life! everyone was singing & dancing in the aisles at the end of the show :)

  4. I can't even watch the preview! But, then again... I'm the sourpuss that hates that kind of stuff. :)

  5. I loved/love it! Watch it all the time when it's on It's a guilty pleasure!

  6. I'm one of those people who generally laughs at the sweet lines in romantic movies but for some reason I love this movie and have seen it multiple times. But Pierce Brosnan's voice does make me cringe every single time.

  7. The moment I saw the preview I knew I couldn't watch it... I'm with you - love cheeseballs and I am one... but I can't watch this movie. :)

  8. Hahaha you totally have me laughing here. I'm a huge dork and I love it! It's totally corny/horrible...Pierce singing KILLS me! His face just looks so pained I love it.

Also I think I really love it because I love ABBA and the scenery is just gorgeous. I can totally understand why someone wouldn't like it though.

    Great post :)

  9. I saw Mama Mia in Vegas and I love it!! but I think cuz it's a broadway show so it's live and stuff... cuz I then saw it in a movie and thought it was too cheesy for me. haha. I guess broadway stuff is suppose to be more cheesy.

  10. I don't get it either. I can't bring myself to watch it in entirety. The 10 minutes I caught were ridiculous. Except for ABBA which is basically genius.

  11. Ha ha I said the same thing in a post on Meryl Streep this week. She no doubt is good in it but the movie was too cheesy for me. Yeah and Pierce Brosnan's singing means I can't see any more Bond re-runs!!

  13. I rented this movie against my better judgement (I'm not a fan of musicals) and thought it was just okay. Pierce's singing was well, piercing to the ears. LOL. Not a fan of the overalls and although it was a cute movie overall, I've never been a fan of Abba music and Meryl Streep is amazing in so many movies, this was not her best role.

I really liked Julie and Julia though-such a cute movie.

Thanks for stopping by to say such nice things about my blog yesterday. I am really enjoying YOUR blog too! :)

  14. I have yet to see it. I keep wondering if it's worth it just to admire the gorgeous Greek scenery and wish I was there again!

  15. I love cheesy movies like that too!

  16. Wow, I've never seen it, and I certainly don't want to now! Those overalls are just too much!!

  17. Colin Firth and ABBA...yes, this should be my all time favorite movie as well! I am so with you here..very "bleh" and who cares! Really, your review is perfect.

  18. Saw it in London with old, old, old school chums and it was a riot. We behaved terribly badly, danced too much, and had loads of fun. The film was... um... not the same as that. Mind you, I went to see it with my mum, so that was nice. She and I always used to sing ABBA songs when I was a nipper.

  19. ugh- i hate this movie too! i had heard so many wonderful things about it that it shocked me when i finally got around to watching it and realized it was terrible! and i love musicals! my fave movie of all time is the absurdly addictive 7 brides for 7 brothers.
