Pack Your Bags: Edinburgh, Scotland

I know I've posted about Edinburgh
several times in the past.

At least, this time & this time
that I can remember.

But since I have get to go up there
so often for work,
I find new things each time
I'm there that I think you might want to know about.

I got to see the usual haunts
like the Royal Mile....

John Knox's House....

& the funny street performers
that may or may not have the same name as my daughter....

...but I wanted to jot down a few new places
that might make your trip to Edinburgh better.

This place is located really close the train station
{right across from the Balmoral, if that helps give you context?},
has affordable room rates,
and has a staff that is super friendly...
especially in the case that your reservation is accidently cancelled.

Not that I would know anything about that though.

This restaurant is located in the heart of New Town.

It's got delicious food
{I'll go ahead and recommend the leek & parmesan risotto and the sticky toffee pudding},
great decor that will make you feel like you're fancy,
affordable prices that won't make you feel like you're broke,
and a staff that is super friendly...
especially in the case that your baby poops through her outfit
TWICE.

Not that I would know anything about that though.

I've always seen the gorgeous stone monuments sitting on the far edge of new town
but have never really know what they were
and how you would get up to see them...
or if you even could?

Well, this time, after leaving an indulgent afternoon
we found the path up there
and it was so easy to do.

{About a 5 minute climb up while holding a baby. Easy peasy.}

not so sure about that bright sun....

The gorgeous view of the city makes this a must-do...
plus, it's proximity to New Town
makes it too easy not to do on a pretty day.

MIU MIU Glitter Slippers

I also got to break in the new shoes
that I found on clearance at Off 5th
while I was in the States.

I couldn't find them online for you,
but I did find some similar ones that are pretty darn cute & sparkly, too.

{You know, just in case you have an inner-Dorothy complex that needs to be satisfied, too.}

Any new places in Edinburgh that you love
that I should try on my next visit?

  6. I costed Edinburgh for the first time in mid-January. It was pretty cold and snowy but that only made the whole city that much more charming! I'm totally in love and have encouraged just about everyone I've met in the past four months to plan a trip.

  7. Edinburgh is my favorite city in the UK, alongside London of course. Had my first visit there in April and loved it! It looks even prettier in your pictures as it looks like spring has arrived (nothing was in bloom during my stay).

I would recommend David Bann's just off the Royal Mile. It is a vegetarian restaurant but the food is delish!

  15. These are beautiful photos! And I can't get over the faux William Wallace! Too funny! :o) I can't wait until we are more settled and can start thinking about trips to Scotland and Ireland!

I just recently moved to London and my friend Ashley Urke, from Domestic Fashionista, recommended I visit your blog. I'll have to do a little digging through your archives when I've got more time, but I just wanted to say hi and that you're running a great blog! I'm sure it'll be really helpful for me as we settle in! :o)

  17. I'm DYING to go up to Edinburgh again. I was there as a 9-year-old for the Millenium New Year's Eve Street Party (amazing, even at that age!), but I'm dying to go back as an adult. These places look amazing, I'm going to have to plan a trip SOON! xx

  18. I definitely didn't get enough time in Edinburgh. (It didn't help that I was incapacitated for most of my time there.) My grandma still chastises me for not getting pictures with the hot guy in a kilt who worked in a shop along the Royal Mile. Oh well. C'est la vie!

  19. I wish I had seen this several weeks ago! I was in Edinburgh for the first time--I'm an American expat living in Aberdeen. WIth baby twins! We saw the same William Wallace guy! And also the pandas at the zoo, they were lovely! Can't wait to get back there, and will have to give your suggestions a go.

Going to write another post and include information about the tour of Mary King's Close tour. It was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it. One hour and you're back in time 100s of years.

  22. I enjoyed Edinburgh and hope to get back there someday. Highlights for me were the Castle (of course), Elephant House, and a tour and tea on HMY Britannia www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/ which was like a peek back in time and on a lifestyle few of us will ever know.

  23. I would recommend the Village of Dean - below Dean Bridge. It was really beautiful and quiet compared to the bustling streets above. There were benches - perfect for sitting with a sandwich at lunch. Well worth the walk.
