I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends...

Here's a confession:

I still think of Keane
as new to the music scene.

Coldplay concerts make me feel hip.

My life long dream is to see
Elton John + Billy Joel in concert.

(Also, this picture still makes me laugh. Viola = Elton John.)

To summarize:
I am a music scene failure.

I only know of good music
when my friends tell me about it.

In return for travel tips & pastry shots,
can you comment below with
a couple of songs that you are really loving
that I should pay $0.99 for on iTunes?

(Remember, I'm cheap- so make that dollar count!)

  1. I feel like all different people enjoy Jeff Buckley's music, he inspired a lot of today's soulful pop. I like the song "Lover, You Should Have Come Over." I would try him on Spotify or Youtube!

  2. All things Josh Ritter. I'm currently loving "Long Shadows" and "Snow is Gone."

  3. Here's some of my favorites- they're all slower (chillaxing) songs. Hope you enjoy!
Let Her Go by Passenger. If I loved you- Delta Rae. Dancing Shoes by Green River Ordiance. All I Need- Mat Kearney.

  4. I'm cheap too-I still listen to pandora. My favorite stations are Bon Iver, Patsy Clien, Hillsong, Norah Jones, Alt J, yoga chill, and Simon & Garfunkle.

  5. I wouldn't start off with buying songs, I'd start off with Spotify. I absolutely love it & even pay $8 to get rid of the commercials. But if you insist on buying you should check out Fink (soulful), Max Frost (indie), Haerts (indie), Emili Sande (belty), and Bastille (indie). There is a lot of great music out there right now, have fun diving in!

    1. Sorry I wasn't very clear! I pay $8 a month for their "premium" subscription which has no commercials & mobile streaming.

  6. Haha! I am so with you. I pretty much relied on the radio at home. Now of course no one wants to stream to Israel - thanks for nothing Spotify/Pandora/whatever other people use.
I do, however, use Groove Shark. It plays overseas. It's not a "radio" but rather a libray of songs you can listen to for free and make your own playlists. I'm cheap, I almost never buy my own music. :)

  7. I'm pretty random with my likes, but the Avett Brothers are my all time favorite if you like folksy. My favorite songs (although there are a ton) are Murder in the City and I and Love and You. It seems like you like the piano so I and Love and You would fit that. Neither one is new though!

  8. If you want to hear something joyful that just makes you want to dance you should listen to the Mowgli's. I just saw them live at ACL and they are just uplifting to hear. Their song "Waiting For the Dawn" has been on repeat for me for the past couple of weeks, check them out and enjoy! =)

  9. I have been absolutely loving Lorde's new album Pure Heroine (especially Royals, Tennis Court and Buzzcut Season)! And Miley Cyrus's new album Bangerz (I know, I know) is really great as well! My favorites from that album would be On My Own, My Darlin' and #GETITRIGHT

  12. Fitz and the Tantrums is really fun and I saw Once the Musical when I was in London in June - can't stop listening to the soundtrack! (though I recommend you see it in person, so fun!)

  14. Listen to Paris by Music Man, I heard it this morning and kinda fell in love. I'll make a few notes and spread the word on all the fab songs I hear.

  15. Viola is adorbs as Elton John! And I think iTunes is up to $1.29. Is it still £0.99 in the UK?

  16. I am right there with you on this feeling, sister. I was just thinking today how UNCOOL my iTunes is in general. But my go to fave is QUEEN. And not the usual Bohemian Rhapsody nonsense. I'm going to show my age here, but you need to know this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSNj9B6l2PU

  19. I saw someone already mentioned Lorde's new cd Pure Heroine. It is absolutely amazing. Royals is playing nonstop on radio stations, but I am a big fan of Ribs, Buzzcut Season, Glory and Gore, and Team. It is something to look into!

  20. Alt J - start with Breezeblocks! Avicii's Wake Me Up, Grouplove's Ways to Go... I have so many that I can't think of at the moment! OneRepublic's Counting Stars!

  21. One Republic's Counting Stars definitely gets the volume turned up when it comes on :)

I also love Florence and the Machine-very cool vibe I think

  22. Lauren, Frank Turner is this wonderful British artiest. He sings like an angel with an English accent. If you check him out start out with To take you home, I still believe, Wessex boy, Rivers or Long live the Queen.

  23. Hi Lauren. Anything by The Civil Wars. Any song. Either album. It's pure bliss! Enjoy.... :)

  24. "Royals" by Lorde, "Pompeii" by Bastille, and "Into the Wild" by LP. You can pay me in crepes.

  25. You should check out a band called Bear's Den - they are amazing. Also, I really liked the Tom Odell album. Daughter are another really good new band - I've been following them for a few years now and they're starting to get the recognition they deserve.

  27. I'm far too lazy to read all the comments above, but if no one has mentioned Mumford and Sons GET ON IT GIRL. Also, Sara Bareilles' new album is spectacular, particularly the song "Cassiopeia." Alabama Shakes are fun fun fun.

  29. I love when bloggers do posts like this! I NEVER listen to radio anymore so it's the only way I find new music! I'd say most of my "new" faves are covered above...
But (just in case!) on my "New Stuff" iPod playlist rotation are: Mumford, Lumineers, Of Monsters & Men, The Head and the Heart, Kimbra... and plenty of movie soundtracks/musicals. haha
Pearl Jam and Paul McCartney both have new albums which I will be checking out shortly! :-)
