Pink Eye

This morning,
I used a voucher I bought earlier in the spring
on for a day at the spa.

I paid £20 for a 30 minute massage, 30 minute facial,
30 minute body wrap, & eyebrow shaping.

Sound too good to be true?

I was worried about that, too.

My trek to the spa was a bit further than anticipated-
in fact, my cab fare cost more than the voucher itself.

Upon walking in, it was obvious that the actual salon
was basically the exact opposite of your resort spa experience.

No lounging in fluffy robes in a serene waiting room.
No leather massage tables with heating pads and fluffy sheets.
No overhead speakers quietly playing music interspersed with faux cricket chirps.

Martine's Beauty Spot was in the second floor of an office building...
in a business park...
in the middle of a small nearby village (Abingdon)...
& looked like the type of joint Frenchy would have worked at

But honestly-
it was one of the best facials & massages I've ever had.

I didn't care that I was surrounded by cinder-block walls painted pepto-pink
and that the squiggly IKEA mirrors hanging nearby were dusty...
I was just happy that I had paid £20 for such amazing treatments.

The staff was so friendly and talented.
They were even accommodating to me arriving a half hour late.

So would I take ten days like this at Martine's
over a over-the-top morning at the Four Seasons?

In honor of feeling a little like a princess
(even though I did take the bus home to save some money),
I'm indulging in some pink today.

Not quite the same shade of pink of the walls at Martine's... but, eh, it's pretty close.

*I love the Pilot Precise oh-so-much. I take it as a personal duty to convert as many people to using them as possible.

  1. Love the color of the bath&shower gel! PS I'll take the drink and the earrings to go! :) glad you had such a good pampering day an feel like a princess!

  2. I think you're the type to find the positive in everything in life, I wish I was more like you!

  3. Hahahah I always get sketched out by deals like that too. Every time I get another groupon email, I always wonder, "well, WHY is so cheap if it's SO fabulous?". Glad you enjoyed yourself. We all need some pampering sometimes.

  4. Thanks for reminding me I'm do for a massage/facial!

  5. That's great! I'm so afraid of those coupon vouchers. I just heard a documentary on the radio of the downsides to them, some businesses end up going out of business because they don't make any money at a mass production level. Another thing they discussed that I found interesting was that the clientele changes so generally customers are ruder when they get a deal. Isn't that funny?

But I'm so glad it worked out for you. What a great way to treat yourself!

  6. I literally lol'd at the Frenchy reference. Love it! And it just reminds us of the old judging a book addage!

P.S. LOVE my FourSale earrings!! Got 'em last week, have only tried on, but they're stunning!

  7. so i was sorta hoping u were going to say this place gave you pink eye...ok not hoping, that would be mean..but would be kinda funny since pink eye comes from poop particles getting in the eye..okay so maybe it would of been funny if it was a story about someone u dont like have that happen at a spa..

alright. pink eye isnt funny at all. nevermind.

  8. So glad you had a chance to be pampered! Sometimes I think the fancier spas charge extra just for the ambience. I am feeling the pink... always!! xo

  9. what a great deal!! and you can always just close your eyes and imagine a pretty interior for that spa :) loving all these bright pink picks! esp that bracelet. xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams

  10. Whew! I was thinking it was going to end badly. So happy it ended up a pleasant surprise...and that you got a little pampering done!!

  11. Sounds like you made out! And now I want that pink cocktail ;) Cute blog!

  12. I frequent a small spa in Boston that has minimal frills but they have the best facials (for the best prices...) in town! I will sacrifice a fluffy robe and cucumber infused water upon my arrival for a few extra dollars in my pocket every time :)

  13. this is too funny. what an amazing deal!! and i am LOVING that gorgeous pink blouse!! xoxo

  14. Phew! I thought things were going to go downhill fast there!
Glad to hear it went well :)

  15. How did you make that fabulous collage of pink lovelies? I love it, and I've been looking for a way to do just that sort of thing.
