One Day, Two Knights: Chicago

First, thank you for all of the amazing hair advice.

Honestly, I have my work cut out for me
in choosing a good salon
with all the options you sent my way.

It's nice to know I'm not the only "head case" out there.

Secondly, my friend Holly just tried on jeans next to Kate Middleton at the GAP.

They shared the mirror together while checking themselves out and everything.

I mean... I'm dying of jealousy.

I'd tell you more if I knew it...
but that's all I know for now.

You'll have to settle for Chicago until I can get more D.O.C. information.

On our way home Friday,
we had one of those travel days
that kinda makes you wish
you never left the house.

Besides the fact that we woke up at 3:00am,
it was a comedy of errors from that point out.

Including but not limited to:
starting to take off and stopping to have a part repaired,
missing our connecting flight,
being rebooked on a later flight
and getting separated into the only two remaining {middle} seats.

Oh well.

It happens.

When we got stranded in Chicago for eight hours,
we could have lazied around the airport...
but for $2.25 we took the train into the city
and made a day of it.

I might not be Ferris Bueller
{though I did meet Matthew Broderick once in NYC},
but I sure did live up my one free day playing in the Second City
and I wore leopard as a nod to his classic leopard vest.

Chicago, you are a good time.
Thanks for showing us sunshine & cheap food.

It's a combination that makes our hearts happy.

If you could get stuck in a city for one day,
where would you go?

  3. I would love to go to Chicago! And these photos? BE-AU-TI-FUL!
And as for a city... I would love to go to Sydney. Seriously. Glad you guys had such a great day :)

  4. You're killing me a little bit. Caribou is my hands-down favorite coffee. I've got some frozen beans from my last trip home that I've parceled out carefully over the past 16 months, but there is nothing like a Mint Condition. Nothing.

Also, Chicago's high on my list of North American travel- I haven't been since I was a teenager, and I loved it then, so I imagine it's even better as an adult!

Kate Middleton's jeans? I can't get one leg into. I want to follow her when she shops for coatdresses... I love those!

  7. I've never been to Chicago, but I'm sure I'll hit it up sometime soon. Love your leopard flats. And as always, are you so beautiful!

  8. I've had my share of bad travel experiences. It really does make me want to drive!

You certainly made the most of your day --- good for YOU!!!
As far as where I'd like to spend the day, if I got stuck....I'd have to say Paris. There is so much I didn't get to do when I was there last time.

    xoxo Elizabeth

  9. 1-Kate Middleton at the GAP? Seriously jealous.

    2-Adorable leopard flats.

3-Good for you for getting out and seeing the sights after one of THOSE travel days. Hubs and I got stuck in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, and I'm still kicking myself for spending 8 hours in the terminal instead of going into the city.

  10. If I got stuck in a city, I'd pick NYC or San Francisco. Both cities are too cool!

  11. That's just not fair. Some people have all the luck! You must find out more information about Kate! Us stalkers need to know...and we need to know exactly what jeans she bought...because surely if we got the same ones we'd look just like her, no?
I would be happy to be stranded in almost any city in Europe for the day. There is so much I have not seen. Ireland would be fun b/c you just drive through the countryside, enjoy the scenery, and hang out at an Irish pub.

  17. How fun! At least you got stranded in a cool city on a nice day!! It always breaks up the trip a little bit too so you don't feel like you are flying forever! I want to hear more about this Kate Middleton story when you get the scoop :) I have a feeling that something like that will happen to you one day...just a hunch ;)

  18. Two things: 1) officially jealous of your friend Holly; 2) I now want to visit Chicago, like, a lot.

  19. how fun! i have yet to be in chicago, but would love to go! if i could be stuck anywhere for one day (shoot, that makes it hard to decide!), i'd probably want to go somewhere like seattle.. where there is no sunshine, so i will be bored after 8 hours of exploration and such..

  27. LOVE that you guys did this and didn't just sit on your bums in the airport. My husband and I did the same when we had a couple-hour layover in Hong Kong.

I'm waiting to hear more about your friend trying on jeans next to KM. I love her!! I love her wardrobe!! I love that she's a Princess!! Ok, I'm done now. (:

  28. i can't believe that your friend saw kate middleton in gap. if i saw her i would scurry back into my changing room because i wouldn't know what to do and then come back and pretend to be cool but then do something really stupid.

and i love cheap food too--that pizza looks so good :)

  34. It has been WAY too long Lauren! Chicago is definitely a good food city and I hope you got some Garrett's popcorn on the way out! I'd love to be in a city like Buenos Aires but don't know how long it would take to and from the airport. I just want to be anywhere with good food and people!
