Flat Land

You might have seen from my instagrams
that we moved into a new hood.

We are now living in Notting Hill...
but not only that,
we are living in, pretty much, the cutest place ever.

We have stumbled upon our own 900 square feet of heaven.

It's just what you'd expect a London flat to look like.

It's filled with light from big windows,
has pretty tan hardwoods,
little sprinklings of character like built-in bookshelves,
and the best part is:
it has a second bedroom.

Everything just feels so cozy, which I love.

In fact, as a kid
I used to try and convince my parents
that they should sell our house
and move all six of us into an apartment.

The idea of us all being smashed in there together
seemed really appealing...
plus, I was pretty sure that all apartments would give me
walking distance to 7-11 for unlimited after-school Slurpees.

I'm finally getting to live out those dreams...
except I have Ottolenghi at the end of our block
that I can walk to for snacks.

We feel so fortunate
to have this little chunk of space
as our new permanent home.

{Especially after living out of suitcases & temporary housing for a year!}

I'll have some "real" pictures to show you of our house once it feels finished,
but until that time
here are some Pinterest finds that are keeping me moving...
apparently in the direction of crowded bookshelves & pops of yellow
and away from any chance of being called a minimalist.

Sue me.

What feels like home to you?

PS. I get internet installed Monday,
so that means: I can get back to blogging like a real person!

    c) Each of those pins are total winners!

  7. Congrats! I cant wait to see pictures. I love your decoration inspiration pins :)

  8. Based off what you've said about your perfect apartment... I want it. hahah Notting Hill are you kidding me??!

  9. That is so cool!! Can't wait to see the real pictures! And I would love, love, love to live in a flat. Really. Or a cottage. My home is very cottage-esque, with small rooms, bright yellows, oranges and reds, and just... well, I can't really describe it!
So excited for your new home :)

  10. No home is complete without more books than you have space for. I'm sure your flat will be everything that makes us stateside insanely jealous! Can't wait to see it!

  11. Sigh. Way to make me fall more in love with you. Knotting Hill is such an incredible place (as you probably already know, minus random music parades). So happy for you!

  12. Can't wait to see some pictures! I know it will be beautiful once you get it finished :)

  13. It sounds lovely! Can't wait to see photos! Notting Hill...*sigh*

  14. Crate and Barrel has a lot of yellow and grey this season in their catalog.
Home to me is minimalism/clean, but not sterile. Lots of family photos and LOTS of books. I definitely prefer a smaller, cozy home with a small fenced in back yard (although I could live without the backyard if I didn't have three little monkeys). I like splashes of steel blue and navy blue. And home always has music in the background and something cooking on the oven. Oh...and throw blankets. Even in the dead of summer, I love snuggling under a blanket with tea and a book or movie.
I can't believe you are living in Notting Hill!! Look for Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant for me.

  15. Living in Notting Hill sounds dreamy! But all the I've seen is from the movie haha. It's great that you guys feel like home now. It's funny because I've always wanted to live in a house. I lived my whole life in apartments!

  16. Let the apartment swapping begin!! ;) can't believe we get to hang out for a whole weekend in Italy so soon!! I can't wait!

  17. I can't believe you are living in Notting Hill! What a dream!
I hope you get settled quick and that you aren't selfish and share lots of local photos;)

  18. Ah I am so excited for you! We just moved into a flat in Jerusalem that we looove, but only for 7 weeks. Moving and suitcases and moving again...makes for some nesting withdrawal. I agree with you wholeheartedly about the joy of smaller living...it's cozy, we love it. Mazel tov on your home, I can't wait to see it! I'm sure you will style her perfectly.

  19. Wait, did you BUY a flat in Notting Hill?? I might just die from jealousy then. 900 square feet is HUGE, too! I can't wait to see how you design it!!

  20. Congratulations on the new home! We'll finally get to move into our new apartment in October - I can't wait to unpack my suitcases!

  21. Please tell me you've watched the movie while there, haha. What a cute neighborhood to live in! Can't wait to see the apartment, & a second bedroom is life changing!

  22. Congrats! Can't wait to see pictures.
