A Random Afternoon in Paris?

Here's a question for you:

What would you do with a
random afternoon in Paris?

Because that, my friends,
is the question
I need answered today...
or tomorrow (depending on your timezone)

Early Wednesday morning,
I'm hopping on the Eurostar
and heading to Paris
for some work meetings...
but Ive got the afternoon & early evening free.

I'll get to spend some time
with a super cool and amazing friend...
I'm hoping that the combination
of her amazing faith & foxy style
sat amongst the gorgeous autumn weather
and the charming Parisian streets
will be a good pick-me-up.

{Ye olde Aspiring Kennedy has had better years!}

But forget about the years...
let's just take one day at a time.

And the particular day
we need to focus on right now
is in Paris, France!

I've got a rough draft in my mind
of how to fill the time,
but I'm curious to hear
what you would do
if you could spend an afternoon
in the lovely city of Paris.

And yes, of course,
I'll be happy to eat a pastry for you.

And a Croque Madame.

And a crepe.

Because I'm just a nice person like that.

{PS. I think I'm going to have to make a pharmacy run for some Bioderm. Who wants a bottle?}

  1. Oh there are not words to express my jealousy, or how I would even narrow that down. I would make sure to grab a ten pack of macaroons from Laudree to share and secretly eat for myself on the train home :) Have fun!

  2. awww Paris... my favorite place in the world. Eat at St. Regis on the Ile St. Louis... one of my fave restaurants in Paris and who doesn't love the Ile St. Louis? :) Enjoy for me!

  3. I would go order a big pot of tea in the bar at the the Four Seasons George V. Heaven!!!! Enjoy!! What I would NOT do is go anywhere near Rue de Rivoli :)

  4. Paris! Well since you're lucky enough to be there on Wednesday, take a quick trip to the Louvre. It's open late on Wednesdays (I'd double check that... that's how it was a year ago) at a discounted price. You basically have the whole museum to yourself to get in, see Mona Lisa and Venus, and then you can duck out. No crowds, no lines, just you and the art in 30 minutes.

Another great way to see the city in a short amount of time is a river cruise. Many include lunch and provide beautiful views of more than you could see on foot in an afternoon.

No matter what you do, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm extremely jealous!

  6. I've yet to go to the Musee d' Orsay, so that'd be my pick for sure. On a weekend I'd love to check out the exotic plant and bird market- it's every bit as picturesque and beautiful as it sounds. Have a wonderful time.

  7. Puhlease get macaroons at Pierre Hermes, those babies are so good they make me want to cry!

Ohh and the falafels at L'As du Fallafel are INSANE. If you're looking for a ridiculously good, affordable meal go there. :)

Other than that, I would just go to a market, put together a picnic, and enjoy it at the Tuilleries Garden with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

    Take me with you?
    Pretty please.

  8. I'd be curious if you are able to get Avibon. Apparently Gwyenie swears by it and others say it's the French woman's secret to aging gracefully. Rumor has it that there is an issue with importing an ingredient?? Just wondering if it was as hard to come by in Paris as it is online for those of us who don't live there. I've heard good things about Bioderm too, what's your rave about it?

Dang it! Why is Boston so far from Paris?!

  9. Gah! Jealous! It's the best city in the world! You can't go wrong with anything you do in Paris, but I'm partial to brunch in the King George V Hotel and a stroll through Christian Dior to lust over the pretties! Dinner at the top of the Eiffel Tower is an unforgettable experience! Have fun! Please share the scoop on Bioderm!

  10. Oh my! An afternoon with a dear friend PLUS Paris...that's basically Heaven on Earth. I think I'd pick up some crepes, cheeses, fruit, macarons, and coffee and find a place to sit and have a fabulous view of the entire city...eat, enjoy the scenery, and just relish in adult conversation. There is nothing better for the soul than a girlfriend who can listen to your heart! ENJOY your special day and eat something amazing! Or just stroll around and get lost in the city with no plans. Your days are spent showing students all the highlights...just enjoy wandering and perhaps stumbling upon something new. Have a wonderful day! You deserve it!

  11. I enjoyed the Creperie Beaubourg outside of Pompidou Centre. If you are going to that part of Paris that is.

  12. I used to live in Paris (I'm in China now - far, far away!). I liked all the suggestions above, but if you're looking for something kind of off the beaten path, I really enjoyed the Paris catacombs. I thought they would just be cool tunnels under the city - nobody warned me they were full of bones! Kind of creepy but super fascinating and a little funky.

  18. i see you've been to the Carnavalet this afternoon - great choice! the spanking new Frida Kahlo exhibit (opening today) at the Orangerie is on my list of to-do's. i'd also have a cup of hot chocolate or tea at Angelina and this weather sure lends for it! Enjoy your time in the city! I'd love to meet you if you were here for longer!

  24. If you are in Paris in the summer....be sure to make a reservation for the free Friday afternoon style show at Galeries Layfayette. You print out your confirmation and take it with you. Have lunch before on their terrace ( 8th floor?)which has a wonderful view of the Eiffel. After the style show, walk across the street and tour the opera house...then stroll to the Ritz for a glass of wine!

  25. I'd go to the jewellery exhibition at the Musée de la Mode et du Textile, which is showing newly commissioned pieces alongside jewellery from their permanent collection, from medieval through renaissance, Art Nouveau/Art Deco to modern, 'Dans la ligne de mire, scènes du bijou contemporain en France'. It's one of my absolutely favourite museums (and I really love shiny things)! You could then wander in the Tuileries to chat about the exhibition and life, and people watch, and then have supper at Le Trumilou.

Or if it's nice you could just spend time outside in one of the parks. Parc André Citroën is pretty nice, in the fifteenth.

Oh my goodness I really want to go to Paris now. Have fun!! and take some pictures!

  26. Ah, your life is amazing! If you have an appetite my favorite restaurant in Paris is Au Moulin a Vent. It’s a local place so don’t expect anything fancy. Start with a glass of bubbles & frog legs, followed by Chateaubriand with the pepper cream sauce & frites! Yum, yum.

  27. I would have picnicked on macarons and camembert and bread at the end of the Ile de Cite, and then wandered around the Musee d'Orsay before going for an early supper at Bistro Saint-Marthe in Belleville. And of course that crepe ;) Hope you had a lovely afternoon, whatever you did! xx
