Excusez-moi...

but how perfect would these notecards look
on any jet-setting lady's desk?

Each card makes me mad with desire
to ride away on my {imaginary} vespa
to the nearest Italian cafe
to meet my {real-life} hunk for an afternoon date.

I need some.

You need some.

In fact,
the whole world should just go ahead and get some.

Monday Moods: I Feel... Golden

England may be known for it's perpetually grey skies...
but back in the US,
I'm squinting and smiling in the sunshine.

i can only assume my love for gray's papaya stems from my mom eating these when she was pregnant with me.
i feel like a lady in these shoes... and girls under the age of 5 love me.
trying on jeans is much more fun when its someone else trying them on.
bubble bath to the max.
eataly. where dreams come true.
in-n-out a la texas. burgers never tasted so good.

New York City: Part One

After just two days in New York,
 my love is rekindled...

which isn't saying much,
because who doesn't love that city?

One bite of the Big Apple
and I was reminded
just how delicious New York really is.

From the moment our plane flew over the Manhattan skyline...

To the first block we strolled...

From a perch above the hustle of Grand Central Station...

To the first bite of delicious food....

Deliciously fresh sushi at the no-frills basement-set Yama, 17th & Irving.

And a sweet, calorie-stuffed ending to our day.

The "Cant Say No Sundae" at Serendipity. Peanut Butter Pie, Ice Cream, Hot Fudge & Banana =  Yes.
As we waited for the elevator at our hotel at the end of that night,
(the W Lexington Ave, which I can only give a B- rating),
a swelling emotion began to rise up in my chest.

Something that made me want to get online

and start looking up apartments that we could afford...

Something that made me want to go back into the night streets
and find another adventure.

Something that made me want to get a giant tattoo on my wrist that said:

I LOVE NY.

I'll be back with more shots of our trip,
some places that I love to visit when in Manhattan,
and a peek atthe pictures we had taken for our 5th anniversary!

Five Steps to Pretty Living.

marc jacobs earbuds $42 | golda jewelry citrine ring $1,385 | TOPSHOP dress £20 | svpply raw silk pillows, $20-50 | Rolex

Pick an item,
any item.

Odds are, that if you purchase any of these fancies,
you'll feel like a million bucks in no time.

{Or if you get the rolex, will have spent nearly that much.}

I, personally, got the earbuds for Christmas
and love them so much.

And that TOPSHOP dress for £20?

 A steal.

I'm packing for NYC.

Our flight is early tomorrow,
and I'll be hitting the ground running.

Have we planned one thing yet?

Nope.

But that's okay...
we don't need plans.

Just each other,
clear skies,
and an iPhone to capture the fun.

What Would Marie Wear?

May it never be said
that Sofia Coppola is
anything less than an artist of cinematography.

What Michaelangelo did with marble, canvas & plaster...
so she can craft with actors, gorgeous settings & a muted pastel palette.

Honestly, I feel visually bloated after I watch her work...

Like I need to unbutton-the-top-button-of-my-brain
it's so stuffed with visual sweetness.

As I begin to pack my suitcases for Paris,
I wanted to craft the closet of Marie Antoinette,
as Sofia Coppola saw her.

So instead of starting off with a historical base...
I'm drifting towards the perspective of
the on-set stylist for one of my favorite movies,
Marie Antoinette.
Off topic from Ms. Antoinette...
I'm back in Dallas now,
and am in a flurry of catching up with friends
and spending time with family...

It feels so good to see these faces
and jaunt around in the sunny, 60 degree weather.

Thursday, we leave for NYC to celebrate our 5th anniversary.

I can't wait to be reunited with that city.

The two of us have had some good times together.

Farewell, 2011.

Some years you gladly wave goodbye...
and others are just really good.

2011, for the two of us,
will go down in the books as a really good one.

We have enjoyed the carefree days...
as we know the tides can turn quickly!

image
From start to finish,
this past year has been full of adventure.

The days were stacked with constant change...

{from new cities & new jobs}

the weeks have been peppered
with the faces of so many people we love...

{friends & family have spoiled us by visiting}

and the months have been comprised of
revolving settings & friends.

{honestly, will I ever travel that much again?}

For the sake of posterity,
here are the highlights of my 2011.

An Egg-ucation.

In case I didn't explain my whereabouts,
I'm currently in Oklahoma...
where, luckily, Tyler's cousin has a farm.

Now, it's not your typical farm.

It's that other kind.

The "Orthopedic-surgeon-and-his-beautiful-Nordic-family
who-gave-up-suburban-life-to-live-on-a-self-sustained-farm
because-they-wanted-to-raise-their-family-in-a-fun-&-healthy-lifestyle" kind.

Totally common.

If I weren't such a prissy wimp,
I'd do it in a heartbeat.

If for no other reason than the thrill of shooting a gun for the first time...

... the farm animals really made me fall in love with the idea.

Especially the chickens.

Sandy (Tyler's cousin) is the resident goddess of the farm.

She makes her own manchego cheese,
home schools her four blond children,
brews her own beer,
& is currently planting a vineyard.

Sandy cracked these two eggs open
in hopes of giving me a tutorial.

Afterwards, I feel I have no choice
but to move out to a farm
just for the luxury of having endless fresh eggs.

Look at the difference in these two eggs:

Both are from the farm's chicken coop
and are great quality eggs that would be delicious.

But isn't the difference in color astounding?

Did you know that many eggs in grocery stores
are around 3-6 months old
by the time they get to our homes?**

Eek!

So I guess for all of us
who will only get as close to farm life
as the pair of Hunter boots in our closet...
it's good to remember:

Buy local,
eat in season, &
relish in the goodness
of fresh, pure food!

** this seemed to be common knowledge to others at the farm. i cannot validate this statement.

You Got Buns, Hun.

These buns haunted me on Pinterest for a long time.

They just seemed perfectly impossible to me.
I would always look at it and wonder...
how the heck they could do that.

This illusive, messy up-do
had been plaguing me in
a very harsh "first world pain" manner,
and I eventually wrote it off as a perk for thin hair.

Until one fateful day.

I walked past these funny things in a bowl,
picked one up and looked at it like it was a bizarre archeological find.

What is this?
What purpose does it serve?
Why would a factory agree to produce these?

And then the lightbulb went off...
and finally understood the physics
behind those perfect little do's.

Some may call it a sock bun-
but for those of you who have asked about mine,
it's a sponge donut.

Or something like that.

It's basically an implant for your hair.

I actually don't know what it's called.

But in all it's ghetto fabulousness...
they work like a charm!

I love it,
and it's super simple...
just make a high pony tail, pull it through the ring,
splay your hair around it... and tuck it under.

So easy, right?

I've been handing them out to my friends
and we love them...
and after such universal success...
 I bought some for you!

I only could find the blonde color first,
and you couldn't tell at all, even though I'm a brunette...
my hair is thick and long so it covered it easily.

So if you hair is a dark blonde
or light brown... either one should work
unless you don't have a ton of hair.
